ArmInfo. Political interests prevent the parties to the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict from agreeing, while representatives of confessions have advantages in the negotiation process based on faith in God, common moral values and trust in each other, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill said at a meeting on resolving the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh with Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims' Board (CMB) Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh , which takes place on Tuesday in Moscow.
The Primate of the Russian Church meets with the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims' Board in Moscow on October 12-13. The meeting on October 13 will be trilateral.
"If we are talking about overcoming a military conflict, then the political factor is present, and when this factor dominates, the negotiations are complicated. Sometimes, from our religious point of view, it seems simply inexplicable to us why people cannot trust. They cannot agree, because political interests are affected ", -said Patriarch Kirill, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, religious leaders have an advantage in discussing such problems, because "we have a common basis - faith in God and a system of moral values, decency and trust in each other," which "creates a very favorable environment."
"During these 30 plus years that we are familiar, there has not been a single case and topic that would divide us and create tension. We have always found a solution to the issues that we discussed," Patriarch Kirill said, addressing the leader of Azerbaijani Muslims.
Patriarch Kirill previously met with the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II. As reported, Karekin II said at the meeting that he believes that Armenia will be able to overcome difficult times with the support of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). He also said that he hopes for a high-level representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Armenia. Patriarch Kirill awarded Catholicos Karekin II the Order of the Russian Orthodox Church "Glory and Honor" I degree for his contribution to the development of friendly relations between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Moscow Patriarchate, as well as in connection with his 70th birthday.
Earlier, Patriarch Kirill said that negotiations between the religious leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have already brought results and reduced the degree of confrontation in Nagorno-Karabakh. He has repeatedly noted that the ROC is ready to participate in the peacekeeping process. Karekin II noted that, in the spirit of trilateral meetings in the presence of Patriarch Kirill, he expects Pashazade to participate in resolving the issue of returning to their homeland those who were captured during the escalation of the conflict in Karabakh.
