ArmInfo.Opposition MPs propose to convene an extraordinary meeting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security of Armenia on October 15 at 1:00 pm local time to consider the situation in the southeastern borders of the country.
According to the report, in the statement addressed to head of the Committee Andranik Kocharyan, it is proposed to listen to reports and explanations of the Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Chief of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Armenia on the situation in the south eastern border of Armenia and on their basis create a working group.
"The purpose of the extraordinary meeting is to obtain clarifications and explanations from the representatives of the executive power on the following issues: The Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff of Armenia must give an explanation according to whose instructions the RA Armed Forces and volunteer units were withdrawn from their positions at the time of signing the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020;
The Minister of Foreign Affairs must provide the Committee with an explanation of the extent to which the RA MFA was involved in this process, whether the requirements of the RA State Border Law were complied with, and whether there was any international treaty binding on the Republic of Armenia;
The Prosecutor General must provide clarifications regarding the constitutional and legal grounds for changing the State Border of the Republic of Armenia and provide clarifications regarding the existence of legal grounds for initiating or dismissing a criminal case under Articles 300.2, 309, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code and Article 299 of the RA Criminal Code;
The Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia must submit a report on the actions taken by the border troops of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia in the direction of protecting the state border of the Republic of Armenia, clarify what actions are planned to be taken to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and bring to justice the subjects responsible for violating the external borders of the Republic of Armenia.
The convening of an extraordinary meeting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and security is due to the fact that since December 16, 2020, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have occupied a part of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, preventing the free movement of foreigners and citizens of the Republic of Armenia across the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia; they threaten and intimidate the civilians living in these areas and moving along the Goris-Kapan highway.
Given the vital importance of the issue on the agenda and the great public interest, we plan to hold the meeting in an open mode, disclosure of any information containing state secrets is not envisaged, "the report reads, and the importance of ensuring the presence of all the above-mentioned officials at the meeting is noted.
