ArmInfo.Armenian studies in the spotlight of the European Union. This is stated in the message of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA).
According to the report, on October 8 at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia the "Historical Armenia as a crossroads of intercultural relations between Europe and Asia in the 9-14 centuries" program was presented.
The author of the project is the world famous scientist, professor at the University of Florence in Rome Zaruhi Poghosyan. The project, worth 2-2.5 million euros and for a period of 5 years, is funded by the European Union.
One of the main goals of the project is to present the role of historical Armenia in the Middle Ages as one of the most important crossroads of Eurasian intercultural relations. Within the framework of the program, a Center for Armenian Studies will be established at the University of Florence, through which cooperation with scientists working in Armenia will be expanded.
"Our team will focus on historical Armenia and the wider surrounding geographic area, which stretches from the South Caucasus mountains westward to Anatolia and in the south to northern Mesopotamia. These are regions with which Armenians have centuries-old historical and cultural ties. Within the framework of the project, we will find out what cultural ties are created as a result of the migration of large groups of the population or the occupation of new territories by the invasion of the armed forces, how relations are formed between the occupied population and the foreign ruling elite, how these circumstances affect social norms or national traditions, "ZaruhiPoghosyan said. She stressed that the program will distribute a large number of source materials, especially in Armenian, which will become the basis for new research.
