ArmInfo. A solution was found for the transit transportation of Iranian goods through the territory of Armenia, bypassing the Azerbaijani checkpoints. This is the conclusion reached by Vardan Voskanyan, Head of the Department of Iranian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Yerevan State University (YSU).
"Judging by the recent tweet of Roads and Urban Development Minister of Iran Rostam Ghasemi, solutions have been found for the transportation of Iranian goods through the territory of Armenia, bypassing the Azerbaijani bashi-bazouks, and in the near future the regional transit maps will be completely changed," Voskanyan said.
According to him, it is noteworthy that, in fact, in response to Baku-Ankara's dreams of the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", the Iranian minister used the phrase "Caucasian Corridor" in his post, which will ensure Iran's access to the Black Sea and Europe exclusively through Armenia and Georgia.
"Without voicing a name, Rostam Ghasemi also warned the dictator in Baku that no way will remain closed to Iran," the Iranologist summed up.
It should be noted that the sticking point between Baku and Tehran was the actions of the Azerbaijani security forces against Iranian trucks on the Goris-Kapan road of the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia, 21 km of which were under the control of the Azerbaijani side. So, since September of this year, the Azerbaijani side began to stop Iranian trucks for the so-called customs inspection at the above section and demand $ 200-400 from Iranian drivers for travel through this section as a fee. Moreover, two Iranian drivers were detained for allegedly delivering cargo to Nagorno-Karabakh.
In response to these actions by Baku, Iran announced the conduct of large-scale military exercises near the borders with Azerbaijan, where numerous forces were drawn. Moreover, after various unfriendly statements and actions from Baku, Iran announced the closure of the airspace for the Azerbaijani air force. This was in response to the closure in Baku of the office of Ojag Nejat, the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
During his visit to Moscow, the Iranian Foreign Minister once again stressed that Iran will not tolerate geopolitical changes in the South Caucasus, as well as changes in the map of the region. He also pointed out the inadmissibility of the involvement of extra-regional forces in regional processes and the advancement of exorbitant demands. Iran has declared the unacceptability of the presence of terrorists and representatives of the Zionist regime at their borders.
