Catholicos of All Armenians meets with Pope at Vatican

ArmInfo.The meeting of Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos  of All Armenians Karekin II and His Holiness Pope Francis took place  in the Vatican today.

As reported in Holy Etchmiadzin, during the conversation the  Catholicos touched upon the catastrophic consequences of the 44-day  war, the current challenges facing Armenia and Artsakh. He especially  emphasized the problem of returning prisoners of war from Azerbaijani  captivity. Karekin II also thanked the head of the Catholic Church  for the support of the Armenian people and Armenia during the war.

Then the delegation headed by the Patriarch of All Armenians also met  with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State. They  especially touched upon issues related to the security of the people  of Artsakh, Azerbaijan's encroachments on the sovereign territories  of Armenia, issues of preserving the Armenian spiritual and cultural  heritage in the territories under the control of Azerbaijan. The  Catholicos of All Armenians attached great importance to the role of  the international community in overcoming existing challenges.
