ArmInfo. Restrictions on the passage of trucks through the Upper Lars checkpoint are associated exclusively with construction work on the Russian side.Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan announced this in the parliament.
According to him, the accumulation of a large number of heavy vehicles at the Lars checkpoint is due solely to this circumstance and denied the information that Armenian truckers who transport perishable products suffer from the restrictions to a greater extent. He noted that the staff of the Armenian Embassy in Georgia are monitoring the situation and trying to help in passing cars through the checkpoint.
According to the Minister, the situation will be corrected by October 18, as the Russian side today equips two additional customs checkpoints to ease the tense situation. After the construction work is completed, by 2023 the total throughput of the Upper Lars checkpoint will increase significantly - up to 3 thousand vehicles per day.
It should be noted that over the past week, more than 2 hundred heavy vehicles from Armenia have accumulated on the border of Georgia and Russia. The traffic has increased so much that the checkpoint cannot cope with the flow.
