Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia John Gallagher stated this during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Suren Papikyan.
In turn, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the development of cooperation with Great Britain is of great importance for Armenia. In this vein, he noted that there are numerous unrealized opportunities, and it is necessary on both sides to make efforts to form a new agenda. According to the press service of the government, the parties discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields, such as business, tourism, new technologies, climate change problems, effective management and development of civil society institutions.
During the conversation, Papikyan named possible areas of economic cooperation between the countries. In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of renewing direct in terms of deepening and developing business cooperation.
The parties also touched upon interaction in the field of solar energy production, the possibility of joint management of new technologies in the educational and scientific fields.
Referring to the situation in the post-war period, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need for multilateral efforts to establish stability and peace in the region. He highly appreciated the position of Great Britain regarding the fact that the platform for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the OSCE Minsk Group, which will bring lasting peace to the region.
They also discussed security, the socio-economic situation in Syunik. In this context, Papikyan presented the priorities of the Armenian government on renewing the road network of the region, developing communities and improving the socio-economic situation of the population, expressing confidence that significant progress is expected in this direction by the end of the year.
To note, according to the RA Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and the United Kingdom increased by 18.3% to $ 22.8 million. At the same time, exports showed an increase of 41.6% to $ 3.4 million, and imports - by 14.9% to $ 19.4 million.
