ArmInfo. Permanent Representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the Republic of Armenia Sergei Ghazaryan presented data on the losses of Artsakh during the large- scale military aggression of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem last autumn.
Thus, Ghazaryan stated in the National Assembly of Armenia during a working meeting organized by the permanent parliamentary Commission on Human Rights and Public Affairs that this aggression led to serious humanitarian and social problems, which can only be overcome by joining efforts.
"In the situation that has developed as a result of the war, one of the key tasks is to ensure the existence of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. Among the most severe losses during this war are human losses," the permanent representative of Artsakh said.
At the same time, he said that during the 44-day war, 742 servicemen of the Artsakh Defense Army were killed, 45 more are considered missing. "80 civilians were killed, of which 42 - as a result of targeted strikes, 38 more died in captivity. In addition, as a result of the war 42 thousand people were forced to leave their homes and were displaced. Of these, 38,154 lost their homes and villages. At the moment, 15 thousand displaced persons are in Stepanakert, another 5 thousand - in various regions of Nagorno-Karabakh, "Ghazaryan said. He also said that 3 thousand agreements on rent of housing for them have already been concluded. Nevertheless, 1960 people continue to live in hotels. At the same time, he said that it is planned to build 300 houses for IDPs in Stepanakert by the end of the year.
"As a result of the war, 192 settlements of Artsakh - 185 villages and 7 cities came under the control of the enemy. Today Artsakh is in dire need of an increase in the housing stock. During the war, the infrastructure of Nagorno- Karabakh was seriously damaged, in particular, out of 36 hydroelectric power plants operating in the energy sector, only 6 remained. There are serious problems with broadcasts - the damage is approximately over 42 million drams. 1,226 economic entities operating in the territories seized by Azerbaijan were affected. 75% of the arable land fell under the control of the enemy. The damage to the irrigation system exceeded 101 billion drams, "Ghazaryan added. The Permanent Representative of Artsakh also touched upon the threat of the destruction of the Armenian cultural and historical heritage in the territories under the control of the enemy. According to him, more than 2,000 cultural sites were under threat of destruction. He also drew attention to the facts of vandalism recorded in the territories occupied by the enemy, including in Shushi.
