ArmInfo.Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev continues his attempts to get a transport corridor through the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia by putting pressure on Armenia.
Thus, speaking at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (GA), he once again, confirmed "his country's readiness" to begin negotiations "on a peace agreement" with Armenia.
"The conflict is over, so Azerbaijan has already announced its readiness to begin negotiations on a peace agreement with Armenia on the basis of the principle of delimitation and demarcation of borders, mutual recognition of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Such an agreement can turn our region into a region of peace and cooperation. However, we still do not see a positive reaction from Armenia to our proposal, "Aliyev said, without mentioning that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have been illegally located on the sovereign territory of Armenia for about 6 months and are terrorizing the border population.
According to him, one of the sectors serving peace and cooperation can be transport projects and new opportunities for the region in this context will be created by the "Zangezur Corridor, which will connect the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic" (through the Syunik region of Armenia - Ed. note), TASS reports. Aliyev stressed that "Azerbaijan has created new realities in the South Caucasus region, and everyone should take this into account." In his words, "Armenia must make a choice between regional cooperation and territorial claims to its neighbors." However, Aliyev, again, did not say a word about the fact that it was Azerbaijan that constantly tries to act from a position of strength and expresses territorial claims against Armenia, right up to the capital of the Republic of Armenia - Yerevan and Lake Sevan. The Azerbaijani leader is silent about the fact that it is 100-year-old Azerbaijan that expresses territorial claims to Armenia, which has a thousand-year history.
