ArmInfo. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he had received positive signals from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to President Erdogan, Turkey expects to soon build a road from the city of Igdir in the east of the country to Azerbaijan, including a railway connection. The head of state noted that the construction of this highway will be a very important step. Erdogan also added that against the background of the processes taking place in the region, "intensive work continues in Azerbaijan."
"It is very important that through the steps that we are taking now, we hope to build a road from Igdir to Azerbaijan (most likely, through the territory of Armenia, Ed. note). This includes the railway. The construction of this highway will be a very, very important step. At the moment, positive signals are coming from Pashinyan on this issue. Now, with these positive signals, we will take some steps in this direction. I hope that we will be able to move the region to a good position in terms of peace, "the Turkish President said.
According to the head of state, issues of unblocking communications in the region will be included in the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the leaders of Turkey and Russia. "Thus, I hope that we will enter a much stronger and new period in relations between Turkey and Russia," he said.
"We had an option of cooperation, which was called platforms five or six. Currently, we are receiving positive signals about this project from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In this context, we also plan to take certain steps," he said in an interview with reporters during his visit to the United States, Anadolu reports.
At the same time, he noted that "until today, Ankara has not seen any erroneous step from Moscow." "Of course, from time to time there are difficulties between our countries in the issue of a more positive development of processes in Syria. However, they are resolved thanks to my efforts and efforts at the level of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For example, if Mr. Putin did not show the features of a true statesman, then we would not have been able to get out of the situation in Azerbaijan. However, thanks to Putin's very timely and thoughtful decisions, a much more positive aenvironment has formed, "the Turkish leader stated.
It should be noted that earlier Erdogan said that the Prime Minister of Armenia, through his Georgian counterpart, conveyed a proposal to meet to establish Armenian-Turkish relations. The Armenian authorities neither confirmed nor denied this information.
