ArmInfo. On September 23, Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejcinovic Buric.
As reported by the press service of the RA Foreign Ministry, Mirzoyan expressed satisfaction with the multilateral cooperation with the organization, noting that the Council of Europe remains one of the most important partners of the RA in the process of democratic reforms, the rule of law and the protection of human rights. Marija Pejcinovic Buric congratulated Armenia on holding the parliamentary elections in accordance with democratic standards.
Referring to the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh and the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the Minister appreciated the statements and calls of various bodies of the Council of Europe, and personally the Secretary General, to stop hostilities and eliminate the humanitarian consequences of the war.
Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that Azerbaijan continues to hold Armenian prisoners of war and civilians hostage, which is a violation of international humanitarian law, as well as obligations under the trilateral statement. The RA Foreign Minister also stressed the need to ensure the unimpeded entry of international organizations, in particular, the competent bodies of the Council of Europe, to Artsakh.
During the meeting, issues related to the Armenia-CoE Action Program for 2019-2022 were discussed.
