ArmInfo. There is no doubt that Armenia has a promising future. But it can become a reality only in one case - if Armenia renounces its current status as a miserable appendage and starts working in all directions with the aim of ensuring exclusively its own interests.
A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by the chairman of the "Republic" party, former Prime Minister of Armenia Aram Sargsyan. "It is necessary to look around - there is no state in the world that would have achieved prosperity and retained its sovereignty in a situation similar to the current situation in Armenia. We must understand that remaining in our current position, we run enormous risks. However, we see only opposite tendencies. The authorities and the opposition are completely in the sphere of serving the interests of Russia, moreover, they compete in which of them does it better, "he said.
This state of affairs, according to the politician's forecasts, will be accompanied by continuing uncertainty and instability both in Artsakh and on the borders of Armenia. And also: the constant threat of a resumption of war, lack of investment and, as a result of a developed technological economy, the spread of sanctions against the Russian Federation to Armenia, migration of the population from Artsakh and Armenia and, in conclusion, acquiring the status of a state allied with the Russian Federation.
In order to prevent such a scenario, Sargsyan invites the Armenian government to answer any question regarding the conflict only after a public response from Baku. The politician considers it necessary for Armenia to participate at the highest level in all international events. In this light, he stressed the need for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to speak at the UN General Assembly that had just begun with the aim of demanding additional security guarantees for Armenia and Artsakh.
The politician considers it necessary for the leadership of Armenia to present to the attention of the international community all, without exception, atrocities of Azerbaijan during last year's war. Baku's refusal to return prisoners of war, illegal trials against them, destruction of historical monuments, opposition to international law, invasion of the territory of Armenia, threats and demands of the "corridor":
Sargsyan believes that the first necessary step in the direction of preventing these challenges and threats is to bring the current situation to the discussion of the UN Security Council. And also by forcing Baku to respect international treaties, initiating negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group on determining the status of Artsakh. If Azerbaijan refuses, by the decision of the UN Security Council, start a remedial secession. According to his forecasts, such a prospect is quite capable of making Baku more pliable and agreeing to the resumption of negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
"And of course, all this should be accompanied by the process of re-equipping the Armed Forces, equipping them with new, technologically advanced types of weapons, regardless of which country produces them. And also by intensifying the competent and full-fledged exploitation of the natural resources of our country. It is necessary to take reciprocal steps in the direction of France, in particular, in the issue of building a modern nuclear power plant. And also to stimulate economic relations with Great Britain, China, India, as well as with neighboring Iran and Georgia, "the politician summed up.
