ArmInfo. Armenia is ready to start the process of demarcation and delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border as soon as possible. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan stated this during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev, which took place in Dushanbe as part of a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils.
According to the press service of the Security Council apparatus, the interlocutors discussed the situation in the South Caucasus. In particular, Grigoryan presented to his Russian counterpart the situation in the country, which has been created since May of this year as a result of the invasion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia. In this context, he stressed that any encroachment on the territory of the Republic of Armenia is unacceptable.
Speaking about the possibility of establishing a lasting peace in the region, Grigoryan recalled the statement of the Armenian government about an "era of peace" that will bring lasting peace and development to the South Caucasus region, while emphasizing the importance of unblocking all infrastructures. In turn, Nikolai Patrushev also noted the importance of continuing work on the process of unblocking communications, which, in his opinion, will provide an opportunity to ensure stable peace in the region. At the same time, touching upon the efforts to resolve the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council noted the importance of intensifying the settlement process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
According to the source, one of the key topics of the conversation was the return of Armenian prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees in Azerbaijan. Armen Grigoryan once again recalled the failure of Azerbaijan to comply with the provisions enshrined in the statement of November 9, 2020, according to which all prisoners were to be returned to their homeland. The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia expressed hope that thanks to the efforts of the Russian side, the soonest return to their homeland of all Armenian prisoners will be possible.
