ArmInfo.The court of general jurisdiction of Syunik region rejected the lawyer's petition to replace the detention of head of the community of Goris Arush Arushanyan with bail.
The defense's petition is based on the fact that one stage of the trial has actually ended and the likelihood of obstruction of the investigation, recorded by the court during the preliminary proceedings, decreases, since all the witnesses in the criminal case have already been questioned. However, the court rejected the petition filed.
Arushanyan's lawyer Erik Aleksanyan stated that the decision will be appealed, because in this way, among other things, Arushanyan's right to elect and be elected is violated. Earlier it was reported that the arrested mayor of Goris will take part in the elections to local self-government bodies, which will be held on October 17 as part of the "Reviving Armenia" and "National Agenda" bloc of parties. The bloc will be named after him: "Arush Arushanyan". According to his lawyers, the arrest is not a legal obstacle to participation in the elections.
To recal, mayor of Goris, Arush Arushanyan, who was included in the electoral list of the "Hayastan" bloc headed by 2nd RA President Robert Kocharian, was charged under paragraph 2 of part 4 of Article 35- 154.2, paragraph 4 of part 2 of Article 38- 149 and part 3 of article 38-154.2. Earlier, the SIS reported that Arushanyan met with head of the Karahunj community Lusine Avetyan a few days before the early elections and offered material assistance to those voters who promised to vote for the bloc. L.A. refused, the planned crime was not brought to an end due to circumstances beyond Arushanyan's control.

Taking advantage of the vulnerable position of voters, L.A. forced them to vote in favor of the bloc.
On July 15 this year, the Central Election Commission (CEC) supported the petitions of the prosecutor's office to initiate a criminal case against the head of the Goris community and to agree to his imprisonment.
