One of the priorities of Armenia's foreign policy is to deepen and strengthen traditional friendly relations with India and bring political dialogue and interaction to a qualitatively new level. RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Armenia Kishan Dan Dewal.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, Mirzoyan singled out the sectors of trade and economic, transport and communications, information technology, defense, healthcare, culture, education and science as important areas of cooperation with India. In terms of the full use of the potential available in the economic sector, the importance of the work of the Armenian-Indian intergovernmental commission was noted. According to the source, the interlocutors also discussed current developments around the North-South international transport corridor.
Touching upon the cooperation of countries on multilateral platforms, the parties noted with satisfaction the consistency of mutual assistance within the framework of international organizations. In this context, Minister Mirzoyan noted the importance of electing India as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2021- 2022, from the point of view of strengthening international security.
The Foreign Minister also drew the attention of the Ambassador of India to the situation created as a result of the penetration of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia. In this regard, Ararat Mirzoyan highly appreciated the principled position of India, as well as consistent support aimed at a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
