ArmInfo. Russia has always stood for the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during the briefing, referring to Moscow's position on the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.
In this vein, she recalled that Russia in the past participated in the relevant mediation efforts, facilitated the signing in 2009 of the Zurich Protocols, which envisage a gradual improvement in relations between Armenia and Turkey without preconditions. According to her, then Russia played not only a mediating, but also an efficient and effective role, which led to positive results of that meeting.
At the same time, Zakharova expressed regret that the agreements reached with the mediation of Russia were not implemented by the parties.
"Even now we are ready in every possible way to promote the rapprochement of the two neighboring states, on the basis of mutual respect and taking into account the interests of each other. We proceed from the assumption that the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations in the context of the implementation of agreements based on the Statements of November 9, 20202 and January 11 of this year, signed by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, this works for peace, stability and prosperity in the region, '' the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said.
Referring to the prospects for the implementation of the <3 + 3> platform in the region, Zakharova noted that as she understands it is about the idea of launching a consultative regional mechanism with the participation of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Iran, Georgia and Russia. "We believe that such a format would meet the interests of all potential participants. I could contribute to strengthening peace, confidence, stimulating economic processes, cooperation in the South Caucasus, "she summed up.
