On August 30, Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan met with US Ambassador to our country Lynne Tracy, who was accompanied by newly appointed Deputy Chief of Mission William Laitinen, newly appointed military attache, Colonel Gregory Pipes.
As reported by the press service of the RA Ministry of Defense, Karapetyan congratulated Laitinen and Pipes on the beginning of their mission in Armenia, wishing new successes in the development of the Armenian-American cooperation.
In turn, Tracy congratulated Karapetyan on the appointment to the post, noting that it is taking place in a rather difficult period for Armenia.
The minister spoke about the situation on the borders of Armenia, having notified about provocations periodically undertaken by the Azerbaijani side. Karapetyan confirmed the readiness of the Armenian side to resolve the problem peacefully, at the same time stressing the determination to defend the inviolability of Armenia's borders and territorial integrity.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the possibility of giving a new impetus to the Armenian- American cooperation in the defense field. The parties expressed their readiness to continue fruitful cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
