
ArmInfo.The Armenian Foreign Ministry spoke about the agenda of the official visit of Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo Bonasso to Yerevan and the level of Armenian-Uruguayan relations.
Thus, according to the RA Foreign Ministry, Bonasso will arrive in Yerevan on August 16. Within the framework of the visit, he is scheduled to hold talks at the Armenian Foreign Ministry, and meetings with the Prime Minister, Head of Parliament and Catholicos of All Armenians are also envisaged. The Armenian Foreign Ministry also spoke about the nature of bilateral relations. Official Yerevan reminded that it was the Parliament of Uruguay that was the first in 1965 to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Diplomatic relations were established on May 27, 1992. And in 1996, the Armenian Embassy in Argentina was concurrently accredited in Uruguay. In 1997-2019, an honorary consulate of Uruguay operated in Yerevan. And already in 2019, the Consulate General of Uruguay opened in Armenia, headed by Eduardo Rosenbrock. There is a simplified visa regime for citizens of the two countries. Armenia and Uruguay actively interact on international platforms, close cooperation has been established on the parliamentary platform. The Armenian community of Uruguay is actively involved in the social and political life of the country.
In Montevideo there is a square "Armenia", where a memorial khachkar dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide is installed. The coastal town of Piriapolis also has a square called "Armenia". At the same time, there is a square named after Uruguay in Yerevan.
