ArmInfo. The Republic of Armenia became the 126th country included in the GLOBE family. This was reported by the press service of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, Sports.
As Director of the GLOBE Implementation Office Tony Murphy said, the Organization expects Armenia to implement a sustainable program in the field of science and education with the support of the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) in the United States and the GLOBE Europe Regional Coordination Office for Eurasia in the Czech Republic.
The participation of the RA in the GLOBE program was also discussed at the meeting of Acting Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the RA Vahram Dumanyan with US Ambassador to RA Lynne Tracy.
During the meeting, Vahram Dumanyan touched upon cooperation with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in particular, the signing of a memorandum on the GLOBE program in June.
The Acting Minister expressed confidence that the GLOBE program, which is an international scientific and educational environmental program, in the best way involves Armenian students and scientists in an international network in terms of studying the global environment, and will contribute to the implementation of new joint initiatives, thereby contributing to development of technology education in Armenia.
In turn, Tracy reaffirmed her commitment to continue and develop multilateral cooperation. "Given the myriad climate challenges facing the world, GLOBE's innovative and interactive methods for recognizing and protecting the environment are more relevant today than ever before," said the US Ambassador.
The Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program is a worldwide hands-on science and education program dedicated to the environment that is now active in more than 120 countries. It works to advance science teaching and learning, improve environmental literacy and sustainable use, and promote scientific discovery. Students and educators collect data and conduct research in collaboration with scientists from a variety of international agencies, and their work is available on the GLOBE website. The program is implemented by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, and is sponsored by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the National Science Foundation under an interagency agreement signed in 1998.
