ArmInfo. Ambassador of Russia to the RA Sergey Kopyrkin intends to further get acquainted with the situation in the border regions of Armenia.
So, on July 7, in an interview with journalists, Kopyrkin, answering the question of whether he is going to visit the Armenian-Azerbaijani border against the background of the call of the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan to the CSTO Secretariat to visit the front line, recalled that he was in Syunik region of RA.
The diplomat stated that he drove along the border, visited the posts of both Russian border guards and Armenian border guards, and visited the points of deployment of the Russian military in Goris and Sisian.
"I think that this issue, of course, will continue to be in the sector of my closest attention," the Russian ambassador said.
At the same time, he expressed his conviction that this is a very important aspect of the Armenian-Russian interaction - issues of security, stability, prevention of an escalation of the situation and the resolution of those very difficult problems that arise in this connection.
Earlier, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas told reporters that the aggravation of the situation in southern Armenia in connection with the establishment of a new border with Azerbaijan is a "border incident" and does not fall under the provisions of the CSTO charter on collective defense.
Reacting to this, Secretary of the RA Security Council Armen Grigoryan expressed confidence that the current situation cannot be regarded as an incident, since the Azerbaijani military personnel have not left the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia for a long time. Considering that the actions of the Azerbaijani side are an obvious attempt to occupy a part of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan once again stressed the need for restraint in matters of wording at the level of the CSTO Secretariat in order to prevent torpedoing constructive efforts to resolve the situation.
At the end of the conversation, Armen Grigoryan emphasized that it is expedient to organize a visit by the CSTO Secretariat to familiarize themselves on the spot with the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Yesterday, in an interview with the RA Public Television, the Secretary of the RA Security Council noted that Armenia is currently trying to find a solution to the conflict with Azerbaijan in connection with the intervention of Azerbaijani troops in the territory of Armenia with Russia and the CSTO. He also noted that Yerevan is waiting for a response from CSTO Chairman Stanislav Zas to the invitation to visit Armenia and assess the situation on the spot.
Girgoryan also expressed his conviction that Zas's non-constructive statements about the situation on the border could become a reason for provocations by the Azerbaijani side in the area of the village of Verin Shorzha, as a result of which two servicemen of the RA Armed Forces were injured.
He also noted that after the demarcation and delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the border troops of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be deployed along the entire length of the borders.
