ArmInfo. The situation on the border with Azerbaijan in the Gegharkunik region is stable, there are no new incidents, and the process of placing the Russian military on the front line is underway. Governor of the Gegharkunik region of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan said this at a press conference on July 7, recalling that due to the invasion of Azerbaijani troops into the territory of Armenia on May 13, there are periodic incidents on the border, the last of which is just a couple of days ago.
At the same time, he added that part of the Russian military are already deployed at the border in Gegharkunik. "After a certain stage, they will be deployed along the entire border line, the Armenian and Azerbaijani military will be withdrawn from this area. After that, the process of clarifying the borders will begin," the governor of Gegharkunik said, finishing that everything is underway, and in the coming days the situation will be clearer.
Touching upon the problems faced by the villagers with the use of pastures and fields, after the invasion of the Azerbaijani military into the territory of the Republic of Armenia, Sanosyan agreed that after the 44-day war in Karabakh, the residents of the region had certain problems with the use of pastures and meadows.
"We have areas where certain problems arose with the use of meadows and pastures, especially after May 13, that is, the invasion of the enemy into the territory of Armenia. But there are areas where the army corps provides the population with all kinds of support. So, when carrying out arable works, the corps ensures the safety of civilians, allocating additional forces so that residents feel more secure, "Sanosyan said, expressing the hope that this problem will soon be resolved.
To note, on May 12 and May 13, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces illegally entered the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the direction of Syunik and Gegharkunik, advanced 3.5 km and 2 km inland, respectively, deployed their units and refuse to leave the territory. In connection with the current situation, Armenia turned to the CSTO to assist in finding a solution to this issue. The CSTO said that this is a border dispute between the two states, in which the Organization will not interfere. On May 25, as a result of the firing of the open armed forces of Azerbaijan on the territory of Armenia, one Armenian contract soldier was killed. And already in the morning of May 27, at the border section of the Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, while carrying out engineering work on the territory of the N military unit of the Armenian Armed Forces, six servicemen of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan were surrounded and taken prisoner by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. After that, acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as a way out of the current situation, suggested sending observers from Russia, the United States or France (the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group) to the border between the countries.
