New  police patrol service launched in Armenia

ArmInfo. A new  police patrol service was launched in Armenia. This was announced by acting Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Rustam Badasyan.

"Meet the new patrol police officers! Today, for the first time in  Yerevan, the patrol police have entered the service.

In December 2019, the Prime Minister of Armenia instructed the  Ministry of Justice, together with the police, to develop a  government program to reform the police sector. It was developed with  the participation of all responsible beneficiaries, officials,  international partners, reputable experts and human rights  specialists. It was approved by the government in April 2020, "  Badasyan said.

He added that the strategy outlined several important changes in  several areas of the external service: the introduction of a new  patrol service and a center of operations; reform of the police  forces; formation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs; transfer of  public services from the police to the Ministry; changes in the  criminal and community police.

"The image of a new police officer enjoying the confidence of the  public, based on the best international experience, the tasks facing  the police in our country, and new people in this profession, was  chosen as a benchmark for meaningful and major changes in this area,"  Badasyan said.

According to acting Minister, various international partners (USA,  EU, OSCE, UNDP, World Bank) expressed their support for the  implementation of a large-scale program, under which more than 5  billion drams were provided in 2020 alone, promising at least the  same support for 2021-2022.  He also informed that admission to study  for work in patrol services in Lori and Shirak regions will be  announced soon, and reforms are continuing.
