ArmInfo. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected Armenia's petition for prisoners of war held by Azerbaijan. Representative of Armenia before the ECHR Yeghishe Kirakosyan stated this during a press conference on July 6.
He said that, the Armenian side demanded in the petition to oblige Azerbaijan to stop the trials against the Armenian prisoners of war, as well as provide the Armenian authorities with all the materials related to the criminal case.
At the same time, the Armenian side demanded to use an intermediate means to avoid human rights violations. According to Kirakosyan, the petition was submitted to the ECHR on June 30, but on July 2, the Court rendered a negative decision.
Let us remind that the Azerbaijani authorities not only in violation of all agreements have been keeping Armenian prisoners of war and civilians captured during the last 44-day war for 8 months already, but also perpetrated illegal trials over them. Every day, groups of 13-16 people stand before an Azerbaijani court on fictional grave charges. To note, these actions of Baku run counter to the obligations undertaken by Azerbaijan within the framework of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. According to clause 8 of this document, the exchange of prisoners of war was to be carried out on the principle of "all for all", however, Azerbaijan speculates in every possible way on this issue and is trying to get political dividends.
