Collective Solidarity: Doctors in Yerevan defend professor Armen  Charchyan

ArmInfo. In Yerevan, the medical community defended its colleague, director of the "Izmirlian" MC, a candidate for MP from the "Armenia" bloc, well-known doctor,  professor Armen Charchyan.

For example, doctors from various medical institutions today are  holding a protest action in front of the SIS demanding the release of  Armen Charchyan from arrest.

They are holding a protest in front of the investigating authority in  white coats. Doctors believe that Charchyan should be released. They  are ready to become a guarantor that the professor will not interfere  with the investigation and will not attempt to hide. Doctors are  asking to release the doctor who made an invaluable contribution to  the development of domestic medicine, provided free assistance to  thousands of citizens, was at the forefront of the struggle for the  lives of Armenian soldiers both during the April war and during the  last 44-day war in the Karabakh conflict zone. Doctors also expressed  their disagreement with the court's decision to detain the doctor,  stressing that this step negatively affected the work of all medical  institutions in the country.

One of the doctors participating in the action, Samvel Sahakyan,  noted that today they will also deliver an open letter, and in this  case the addressee is only the head of the SIS Sasun Khachatryan:  "This is not the same open letter, but the meaning is the same, it  will not be what - or a political assessment, we are not trying to  conduct any criminal law discussions. The doctors gathered here are  all participants in the war>.  Earlier, 539 doctors issued an open  letter to the authorities and the public demanding to cancel the  arrest decision.

rTo recall, Charchyan was charged on June 18 under article 154.2 of  the RA Criminal Code - giving a bribe to voters, violating the  prohibition on charity during elections or obstructing the free  expression of the voter's will. Armen Charchyan does not accept the  charges against him.

On the evening of June 23, judge Armine Meliksetyan made a decision  to arrest Armen Charchyan for a month. Then it became known that  Armen Charchyan was taken to the hospital with a heart attack. In  this regard, the doctor's defense petitioned to change the preventive  measure in respect of their client. On June 24, in the evening, a  protest action was held in front of the Prosecutor General's Office  demanding an end to the political persecution of Charchyan.

To note, the RA Prosecutor General's Office assures that there are no  grounds for canceling the measure of restraint, and Charchyan has  been taken into custody, since he may have an impact on the course of  the investigation.
