ArmInfo. The total number of Azerbaijani military personnel in the Armenian territory remained unchanged. Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Artak Davtyan stated this in an interview with journalists on June 22.
"The total number is all the same. Sometimes the figure changes due to a change in shift or the solution of supply issues. But in general, there are unchanged," said the Chief of the General Staff.
Referring to the general situation at the borders, the head of the General Staff noted that there are fewer incidents as such now, and this is due to the negotiation process that is now underway.
"An active negotiation process is underway, not all the details of which are voiced. If the issue is not resolved through negotiation, appropriate steps will be taken," Davtyan said, adding that the process is underway, 4 out of 6 prisoners of war were returned. He recalled that the Azerbaijani side also returned the Armenian military in Syunik disoriented by the fog. At the same time, he once again stressed that the army is ready to resolve the issue by force, but additional casualties are an undesirable option, given the results of the last war.
The head of the General Staff also called the information about the shelling of border residents by the enemy a little exaggerated, recalling that there were similar incidents in the past, but it was always possible to keep everything under control. Davtyan called the current situation sad and assured that through negotiations they will try to resolve everything.
It should be reminded that on May 12 and May13, Azerbaijani armed formations illegally invaded and advanced 3.5 and 6 km deep into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia in Gegharkunik and Syunik regions. Until now, they continue to illegally stay on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. The Armenian side declares the need for their withdrawal without preconditions, while emphasizing the imperative of a peaceful resolution of the current situation.
