Yesterday the RA President appealed to his compatriots, urging "all parties and blocs participating in the elections, all candidates for lawmakers to be restrained and prudent in their actions and behavior, to call for restraint also on their comrades-in-arms and supporters, to show tolerance and respect, not to violate the boundaries of morality in political purposes ".
The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan, who occupies the second line in the electoral list of the ruling Civil Contract party, also voted at the 8/07 polling station. Extraordinary elections to the National Assembly of the 8th convocation have started in Armenia. From 08.00am local time, 2008 polling stations were opened throughout the republic in 38 territorial districts. 479 are located in Yerevan, another 1529 - in the regions
According to the Armenian police, 2 million 578 thousand 678 people are registered in the voter register 2.578 million citizens have the right to participate in elections - more than 855 thousand in Yerevan. Electronic voting in early parliamentary elections began on June 11 and ended on June 13. 363 people have the right to participate in elections electronically (employees of diplomatic missions and members of their families).
The elections will be held on a 100% proportional system. Passage barrier for parties set at 5%, for alliances - 7%. There is no turnout threshold.
68 foreign and 50 local media will cover the elections in Armenia,. The election observation mission will be carried out by 8 international and 19 local organizations. 25 political forces are taking part in the elections: 4 blocs and 21 parties.
