ArmInfo.Narek Sargsyan, the nephew of the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, was imprisoned for illegal drug trafficking and possession of weapons.
So, during today's court session, Narek Sargsyan was found guilty of the crime incriminated to him, and sentenced to 5.5 years in prison. However, taking into account the deduction from the period of Sargsyan's detention during the trial, the accused will spend 3 years 6 months and 23 days in prison.
It should be reminded that 33-year-old Narek Sargsyan is accused of drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons, as well as organization of kidnapping. Narek Sargsyan, who has been on the wanted list since July 2018, was detained in December of the same year in a residential building in Prague by Interpol and the Czech police. According to the police, the nephew of the former head of state was detained with a fake passport in the name of Franklin Gonzalez, a Guatemalan citizen.
In June 2019, a Czech court granted the request to extradite Narek Sargsyan to the Armenian law enforcement agencies. On November 13 last year, by the decision of the Court of Appeal, Sargsyan was released from arrest on bail of AMD 25 million. Hayk Sargsyan, however, in March of this year, he was again detained.
Note also that on June 1, the capital's court acquitted another nephew of Serzh Sargsyan - Hayk. The latter was accused of committing a crime 12 years ago - attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. He was charged under part 1 of article 34-104 (attempted murder) and part 1 of article 235 (illegal acquisition and storage of weapons and ammunition) of the Armenian Criminal Code.
The court acquitted Hayk Sargsyan under the article on illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, and applied a statute of limitations on charges of attempted murder, re-qualified under the article on causing grievous bodily harm by negligence. Meanwhile, the prosecutor demanded to sentence Hayk Sargsyan to 7 years in prison.
