ArmInfo. Before flying to Brussels, where the NATO summit will be held on June 14, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters what he plans to talk about at a meeting with his American counterpart Joe Biden.
Thus, he stated that the meeting with Joe Biden will be the first after his inauguration as President of the United States, and it will be necessary first of all to discuss Turkish-American relations. According to him, there are many issues remaining on the negotiating table in the field of defense between Turkey and the United States, and the most important of them is the topic of F-35 fighters. "Turkey has fulfilled its obligations [on the F-35], however, unfortunately, the American side did not behave in the same way. In addition, there are a number of initiated and unfinished projects in the defense industry between Turkey and the United States. Of course, we would like not to have such unfinished projects, "the head of state emphasized.
Erdogan also touched upon the topic of the recognition of the Armenian genocide by the United States and noted that a very negative process took place on April 24.
"This approach greatly upset Turkey. Naturally, this issue cannot but be discussed," he added. President Erdogan expressed hope that the negotiations with Biden will be carried out taking into account all the sensitive points and steps will be taken that will make Ankara forget about April 24. Speaking about the summit of the North Atlantic Alliance, the head of state said that Turkey will take part in an important event, at which decisions will be made on the NATO-2030 process, which defines the roadmap for cooperation of the bloc for the next 10 years.
"The only expectation and desire of Turkey is that the position of the United States, without any reservations, should be aimed at the unity and solidarity of NATO," he said, Anadolu reports.
