ArmInfo.The Central Election Commission of Armenia granted the petition of the Prosecutor General's Office to prosecute a candidate for MP accused of bribery. Advisor to the Prosecutor General Gor Abrahamyan reported this on his Facebook page.
Earlier, the press service of the supervisory body reported that they detained two people for trying to give an electoral bribe of 9 million drams (about 17.3 thousand US dollars) to collect votes in favor of the bloc participating in the early parliamentary elections. Thus, according to the information, the Armenian Police received operational data that in order to secure votes in favor of the bloc participating in the early parliamentary elections and distribution of pre-election bribes to the residents of the village of Janfida, the former mayor of Armavir R.Kh., included in the electoral list of the same bloc, by prior arrangement, handed over to a resident of the village of Janfida G.P. 9 million drams.
As a result of joint activities undertaken by the Police officers, on June 10 at 2:30pm in the house of G.P. in the village of Janfida, the abovementioned persons were caught while handing over an electoral bribe in the amount of 9 million drams. "At the same time, as soon as they saw the police officers, they threw into the courtyard of the house a plastic bag in their hands with an amount that was the subject of an electoral bribe, which was found and seized during the inspection of the scene of the incident," the message says.
On the same day, based on the prepared materials, a criminal case was initiated in the Prosecutor's Office of the Armavir region on the grounds of Part 2, Article 34-154.2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The preliminary investigation of the case was entrusted to the Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
R. Kh. And G.P. were brought to the Armavir police station and detained. They refused to testify. The necessary actions are taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
Gor Abrahamyan reports that 7 more people are being prosecuted in the case, one of them on suspicion of giving a bribe, 6 on taking a bribe.
