ArmInfo. The UN recognizes all post-Soviet countries within the boundaries in which they were part of the Soviet Union. This was stated on June 10 at a press conference in Yerevan by first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, answering the question of how acceptable the recognition of the Soviet borders is for Armenia and what it is fraught with, including for the future of Artsakh.
"To allow or not to allow is not in our competence. If you are strong, you can go to win. But the reality is that the UN recognizes all states within the Soviet borders," Ter-Petrosyan said. At the same time, the first president is convinced that until there is a proper document regulating the border issue between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the atrocities will continue.
Speaking about the Karabakh issue, he stated that in 1997 the moment was missed to consolidate the victory in the Karabakh issue and, most importantly, now not to miss this moment. Ter-Petrosyan also stated that he handed the victory over Karabakh to the next authorities, since he was not allowed to consolidate it. The first president believes that Vazgen Sargsyan, Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sargsyan were in collusion to prevent him from implementing his project. "If I tried to do this, a civil war would start. Therefore, I resigned," he said, adding that in 1997 Azerbaijan was more ready to consolidate the agreements reached than in the last 23 years.
