ArmInfo. Acting Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Vahram Dumanyan at a meeting with Ambassador of France to Armenia Jonathan Lacote highly appreciated the activities of the French University in Armenia.
According to the minister, as an educational and research platform, the French University in Armenia contributes to the development of the Armenian-French friendship and the creation of new opportunities in the best possible way. Dumanyan confirmed the readiness of the Armenian side to support initiatives aimed at expanding the educational institution.
"If the University is ready to implement educational and research programs, we will jointly promote the development of science in Armenia, ensure a dialogue between education and science. Therefore, within the framework of the Armenian-French cooperation, it is necessary to do everything possible to complete the chain from preschool education to science," acting Minister of Education and Science said.
Dumanyan also said that with the financial support of the Francophone Regional Center for Central and Eastern Europe (CREFECO), the Ministry of Education and Science will soon organize a Francophonie summer school in Armenia in order to improve skills, interest in the formation and development of the French language.
In turn, Lacote noted that thanks to the development of faculties of mathematics and computer science, it is envisaged that by 2025 the number of students at the French University in Armenia will double. He welcomed the proposal of the Armenian side to expand the research component of the FUA.
According to the Ambassador, the best examples of the Armenian-French cooperation are the activities of the French International School in Armenia named after Anatole France, as well as the introduction of a program for in-depth study of the French language in some secondary schools of the republic. All of these schools will receive support in the form of educational programs and textbooks, Lacote said. He added that 5,300 textbooks have already been provided. The diplomat was pleased to announce that several high schools have joined the program this year, which will ensure the continuity of the advanced French language program from grades 2 to 12.
At the end of the meeting, they also touched upon the possibility of restoring Armenian historical and cultural monuments in Armenia with the support of the French National Institute of Cultural Heritage, within the framework of which it is also planned to train specialists. The parties pointed out the importance of the above process, which will confirm the fact that Armenian historical and cultural monuments are part of the world heritage.
