ArmInfo. The proposal to deploy international observers from the Russian Federation or other co-chairing countries of the OSBE Minsk Group on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was not previously agreed with them.
This was stated by the lawmaker of the parliament of the 7th convocation from the "My Step" faction Sisak Gabrielyan on May 31 during a briefing. When asked how long Armenia will have to wait for the reaction of the likely "acceptors", Gabrielyan said that this will be a long process and at the first stage it is necessary to wait at least for their consent. Further, it will be necessary to agree on which of the co-chairing countries will carry out the observation mission and in what time frame it will be possible to deploy them.
Nevertheless, according to the head of the ruling My Step faction Lilit Makunts, the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs is, in fact, an expression of their readiness to send their observers. At the same time, it is necessary to understand whether the proportional withdrawal of troops is realistic or not, then move on to the next steps, she added.
On May 27, at a meeting of the Security Council of the republic in an expanded composition, acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan made a diplomatic solution to the situation, which will lead to de- escalation of tension. He suggested moving away from the border and returning to the places of permanent deployment, placing international observers from Russia and other countries of the OSCE Minsk Group (USA and France) along the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the next stage, according to Pashinyan's proposal, with the assistance of representatives of the Russian Federation and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, work begins to clarify the border points from Sotk to Khoznavar.
