ArmInfo. At this stage, it can be recorded that the public reaction to the proposal of the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the deployment of observers on the Armenian- Azerbaijani border has already been voiced, at least at the level of the OSCE MG co-chairs. The leader of the parliamentary faction ''My Step'' Lilit Makunts shares this opinion.
On May 27, at a meeting of the Security Council of the republic in an expanded composition, acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed, in his words, the shortest path to de-escalation of the border situation with Azerbaijan, namely, the armed units of the two sides leave the border proportionally and return to their places of permanent deployment. Then, international observers from the Russian Federation or other co-chairing countries of the OSBE Minsk Group are deployed along the border.
According to Makunts, the OSCE MG, the USA, Canada have already reacted to Pashinyan's proposal, and many countries, including Lithuania, have reacted to the very presence of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. "Now it is Azerbaijan's turn to withdraw troops from the territory of Armenia," she said on May 31 during a briefing in parliament.
To note, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Igor Popov (Russia), Stephane Visconti (France) and Andrew Schofer (USA) on May 28 made a statement in connection with the situation on the Armenian- Azerbaijani border. According to the OSCE, the co-chairs take note of the information on the detention of six Armenian soldiers on May 27 and call for the full release of all prisoners of war and other detainees. <Use of force or threat of force to resolve border disputes is unacceptable. We call on both sides to take immediate steps, including the redeployment of troops to de-escalate the situation and begin negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of the border peacefully. The co-chairs are ready to assist this process, "the statement reads.
