ArmInfo.The Canadian Foreign Ministry and the American congressmen made statements in connection with the capture of the Armenian military personnel by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
Thus, the Canadian Foreign Ministry on its Twitter page, in particular, stated: "Canada is concerned about the seizure of six Armenian soldiers by Azerbaijani troops and the continuing tension along the Armenian- Azerbaijani border. We call on all issues to be resolved through peace talks through the OSCE Minsk Group."
A group of American congressmen also spoke on the situation and strongly condemned the latest act of aggression by Azerbaijan in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia.
According to the Armenian National Committee of America, the congressmen are demanding that the State Department hold the Aliyev regime accountable and are threatening sanctions to put an end to the ongoing atrocities. "We are alarmed by the continued actions of Azerbaijani forces on Armenian soil in and around Gegharkunik, which resulted in the death of an Armenian soldier and the kidnapping of six more people. It is imperative that the State Department holds Aliyev accountable for his deadly aggression. We will continue to work with the Biden administration and our colleagues to ensure that the United States uses all diplomatic tools at our disposal, including sanctions, to end these atrocities, and plan to put forward a number of tangible actions that the United States must take to ensure peace and accountability, "the statement said.
To note, on May 12 and 13, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces illegally entered the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the direction of Syunik and Gegharkunik, advanced 3.5 km and 2 km inland, respectively, deployed their units and refuse to leave the territory. On the morning of May 27, at the border section of the Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, while carrying out engineering work on the territory of the N military unit of the Armed Forces of Armenia, six servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia were surrounded and taken prisoner by the servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. After that, acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as a way out of the current situation, suggested sending observers from Russia, the United States or France (the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group) to the border between the countries.
