ArmInfo. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces kidnapped 6 Armenian servicemen from the sovereign territory of Armenia, since this fact cannot be called captivity, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on May 27 before the start of a government meeting.
The Ministry of Defense of Armenia issued a statement today that in the early morning of May 27, six servicemen of the Armed Forces of Armenia were surrounded and taken prisoner by the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan while carrying out engineering work in the border zone in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia, in the protected territory of the N-military unit. The Ministry of Defense informs that the persons who performed engineering work and were captured on the territory of Armenia without crossing the border are contract servicemen. "The statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, according to which the Armenian servicemen, captured by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, were in the territory of Azerbaijan, does not correspond to reality," the statement reads. According to Pashinyan, the servicemen carried out work to "furnish the border." These works, as he pointed out, were accompanied by the establishment of warning signs about the mining of the territory.
"The actions were carried out to increase the level of border security," he said. Nikol Pashinyan recalled that units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have been stationed in the indicated territory since May 12. "The issue (should be considered) precisely in this context, and the ongoing processes are absolutely unacceptable for us. Incidents of this kind occur due to the fact that some want us to come to terms with the presence of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on our territory, which will never happen ", emphasized the acting head of government.
The next scenario, or the second goal pursued by Baku by the development of this situation, according to Pashinyan, is to provoke a military clash. This, as pointed out by the acting prime minister, the Armenian side in no way can admit.
