ArmInfo. Former Minister of Transport of Armenia, former Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan, accused of embezzlement, was released on bail in the amount of 50 million AMD.
As reported by the press service of the RA Prosecutor General's Office, accused of crimes provided for by part 2 of Article 308 (use by an official of his official position contrary to the interests of the service, causing significant harm to the state and entailing serious consequences by negligence) and paragraph 1 of part 3 of Article 179 (misappropriation or embezzlement on an especially large scale) of the RA Criminal Code, wanted Gagik Beglaryan arrived in Armenia on a Moscow-Yerevan flight on May 17, 2021, voluntarily appeared at the body carrying out criminal proceedings.
"In addition, Beglaryan deposited the corresponding amount of damage caused to the state to the deposit of the Armenian Prosecutor's Office, in accordance with the charges brought against him. Taking into account these circumstances, the prosecutor supervising the legality of the preliminary investigation in the criminal case made a decision to replace the measure of restraint in the form of arrest in relation to Gagik Beglaryan with release on bail in the amount of 50,000,000 AMD (95 thousand dollars), "the statement of the RA Prosecutor General's Office says.
As ArmInfo previously reported with reference to the RA Police, Beglaryan arrived in Yerevan yesterday on a flight from Moscow and was detained by officers of the "Zvartnots" police station and handed over to the RA NSS officers. Beglaryan is accused of embezzlement of property in the amount of 233 million 470 thousand drams.
As it later became known from the Armenian media, Beglaryan, who has been on the wanted list for more than a year, returned to Armenia to take part in the funeral of his brother, who died of coronavirus.
