ArmInfo. The delegation led by RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan left for the Syunik region of Armenia to familiarize themselves with the situation at the border, collect information and protect the rights of border residents.
According to the press service of the Ombudsman's office, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia informs international organizations about the illegal movement of the armed forces of Azerbaijan into the territory of the Republic of Armenia, in particular, to the territory of Sev Lich (Black Lake) and further inland towards settlements, which significantly violates the rights of border residents.
"The presence of the Azerbaijani armed forces grossly violates international human rights requirements, deprives the citizens of Armenia of the only source of income for their families - to engage in cattle breeding, use pastures, and poses a real threat to communities' access to irrigation and drinking water, as well as to their life and safety. The aforementioned illegal act of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces once again proves the imperativeness of the Human Rights Defender's proposal to create a security zone that will guarantee the rights and peaceful life of border residents of the Republic of Armenia, their physical and mental integrity, "the Ombudsman's office said.
It should be noted that yesterday a group of Azerbaijani soldiers consisting of 150-200 people illegally entered the territory of the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia, and having advanced 3.5 km into the depths of the country, they are trying to gain a foothold at Lake Sev lich. Negotiations have been held between the parties since yesterday, but the issue has not yet been resolved. The Armenian authorities confirmed this fact only at night during the session of the Security Council. The military prosecutor's office instructed the military police to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the incident to prepare materials.
