ArmInfo. The bloc of former presidents of Armenia in any case was deprived of any chances of winning the expected early parliamentary elections. I can say this with all confidence. The chairman of the party Aram Sargsyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
On May 5, the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan called on Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sargsyan to oppose Pashinyan as a single pre-election bloc, "since this may become the only way out of the current national crisis in the country and an opportunity to avoid new troubles." He also published a draft joint statement of the former presidents of Armenia, rejected by Kocharian at the March meeting. The statement, in particular, provided for their participation in the upcoming elections as part of the united Alliance "National Accord", "not striving to personally take any position in the new system of governing the country."
"I am more than sure that the first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan voiced what happened at the March meeting with his successors, being firmly convinced of their public refusal to his proposal. It is not excluded that he even predicted that Kocharyan and Sargsyan would refuse in such a harsh form, "he suggested.
At the same time, the leader of the "Republic" party, in a certain sense, expressed his agreement with Ter- Petrosyan's position. The essence of which lies in the awareness of the inability and lack of prospects for winning the elections of all three ex-presidents separately. Thus, the essence of the proposal of the first president, according to Sargsyan, was to unite as the only possibility of winning the upcoming elections.
Commenting on the position of former President Serzh Sargsyan regarding Ter-Petrosyan's proposals, the politician noted that it is completely justified. Because even in a union, the former presidents are incapable of winning the elections together. Accordingly, a common defeat would turn out to be a form of disgrace for all three. Which gave additional justification for their participation separately. Sargsyan does not take into account the factor of Robert Kocharyan at all due to its extreme insignificance in the formation of political processes in the country.
"It is clear that all this leads to a quite natural question - in this case, why did the first president publish this statement? In my opinion, Ter-Petrosyan will voice the answer to this question only after the publication of the results of the early elections. Moreover, this answer will be given in a rather harsh form, "the politician summed up.
