ArmInfo. The monument to Garegin Nzhdeh in Martuni stands and will stand in defiance to everyone, Sofia Hovsepyan, an independent member of the National Assembly of Armenia, said in an interview with reporters on May 5.
The day before, rumors spread in the media that a decision had been made to dismantle the monument to the commander Garegin Nzhdeh in Martuni before May 9. Similar rumors were circulated in February this year. The monument began to be erected on September 26, 2020 by the decision of the Martuni Council of Elders, on the street bearing the name of the national hero of Armenia, who once saved Syunik from Turkish occupation.
"Many are already waging a war with stones, and it seems to them that by dismantling the monument, they will be able to avoid publicity," she said, noting that with this step "some are doing a disservice to the Russian side," because by doing so they artificially provoke anti-Russian sentiments.
According to the lawmaker, the Turkish side is the initiator of the demarche against the monument. "Fascist Turkey today dared to point to one person (Garegin Nzhdeh ed. note), calling him a fascist, and create problems with his existence," she said, stressing that Nzhdeh was never a fascist.
