ArmInfo.Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on May 3 in parliament named the reasons that contributed to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by US President Joe Biden, answering the question of independent MP Arman Babajanyan what Yerevan plans to do in connection with Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide, does Armenia really understand, how recognition can improve security; and what opportunities it can create in the region and in the world.
So, according to Pashinyan, there is one long-term factor, one medium-term factor and two short-term factors. "The long-term factor, of course, is the consistent work of the Armenian community of the United States and all Diaspora organizations. The medium-term factor is the regional policy of Turkey and the dissonance that has arisen between Turkey and the United States in this context. The short-term factors are the first, it is the 44-day war and frank, active involvement of Turkey in it and the second factor is that Armenia is a democratic country. These four factors, in my opinion, led to the adoption of this unprecedented and historic decision by the President of the United States, "Pashinyan said. In this vein, the acting Prime Minister believes that these factors are also related to the Artsakh issue and its further settlement. "If we add to the fact of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the US President the comments that the RF President gave after the war, speaking about the origin of the Karabakh issue and the security of the Armenians of Artsakh. If we also add to this the second joint statement of the OSCE MG co-chairs after the war, we will see that all these processes have deep connections, " he said.
Nikol Pashinyan did not specify what ideas the Armenian government has in this regard, but noted that the topic could be discussed with the parliamentary forces.
To recall, on April 24, the US President used the term "genocide" in his annual address to refer to the events in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. Biden used the term "genocide" along with the Armenian term "Metz Yegern" (great massacre - Ed.). Previous US presidents avoided using this term in their messages, and limited themselves only to the wording "Metz Yegern". Turkey reacted negatively to this step of the US President. Ankara stated that it rejects this statement and this will negatively affect the future of Turkish-American relations.
