ArmInfo. I consider the possibility of nominating and electing another candidate for Prime Minister in the transitional period preceding the snap elections to be extremely low. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by one of the leaders of the social democratic party "Citizen's Decision" Garegin Miskaryan.
On April 25, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan resigned to hold early parliamentary elections in the republic. All this time, he will continue to serve as the head of the Cabinet of Ministers. "According to the agreement with the president and the political forces, I am resigning today to hold early parliamentary elections on June 20. The parliament will not elect a new prime minister twice in a row, after which the legislative body will be dissolved by force of law and early elections will be called, " Pashinyan said. "As for the activation of the opposition, the activation of protest actions against the current government, all these manifestations have been in the past, are now and will be in the future. Accordingly, the technical resignation of Nikol Pashinyan from the post of prime minister, in my opinion, has no impact on these processes," he stressed.
Commenting on the prospects of holding the upcoming snap elections based on the updated Electoral Code, the politician regretfully described this probability as rather low. Meanwhile, according to him, the elections based on the new IC could be an important step towards the establishment of a healthy political field in Armenia, which is still in the process of democratic formation.
At the same time, Miskaryan expressed his conviction that the formation of a new Electoral Code is not only the responsibility or prerogative of a particular political force. In this process, in the opinion of the politician, all the political forces of the republic should take part. At a minimum, political players who are interested and have as their goal the establishment of Armenia as a sovereign, democratic state. Meanwhile, statements from the government and the opposition, according to Miskarian, today only indicate a mutual desire to reduce the electoral struggle in Armenia exclusively to the confrontation of the two poles. Thus, these two forces, in the opinion of the politician, intend to once again put society before a choice between the bad and the worst.
"But I don't think our voters will fall into the same trap again. It is clear that both of them will make every possible effort to build an election campaign based on the principle of dividing into "white" and "black", "former" and "capitulators" on the basis of high-pitched speeches and appeals. I am convinced that our society today, more than ever before, is aware of the disastrous nature of the choice of power based on the approaches and principles offered to it. I am convinced that the time has come for making value-based choices. And today, the opportunity to exercise their own right to choose is higher than ever, " the politician concluded.
