ArmInfo. An extraordinary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia is being held in Yerevan. The agenda of the meeting includes two issues - a package of amendments and additions to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and related laws, as well as the draft law "On Amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia".
In particular, the parliamentary majority proposes amendments to the Criminal Code and the Administrative Code, which provide for the introduction of criminal liability for obstructing election campaigning, responsibility for all cases when the results of voting at a polling station are declared invalid as a result of obstructing the electoral process, the use of violence in the precinct center or at the entrance to the polling station. It is also proposed to restablish criminal liability for publishing false information about a party (party bloc) or a candidate participating in elections, if this process took place for selfish purposes and was carried out by a group of persons or an organized group. As noted in the justification for the bill, this provision does not apply to the publication of false information by an individual.
As part of the draft amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, it is proposed to introduce an administrative penalty for conducting campaigning on the day before the vote, on the day of its holding, as well as conducting campaigning by a person who does not have the right to do so.
The parliamentarians also propose to introduce criminal liability in case of failure to provide the competent authority with information that prevents the acquisition of the status of an official.
