ArmInfo.Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, during a meeting with the French delegation headed by the President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher, thanked the French legislators for their efforts in recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
According to the press office of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin, the delegation was accompanied by the French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacote.
On behalf of the Armenian people, Garegin II also thanked the representatives of the Senate for the efforts of France to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The Catholicos of All Armenians stressed that despite all this, Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey and international terrorist groups, launched a war against Artsakh, which had disastrous consequences.
Garegin II expressed concern that even today, in the post-war period, the Azerbaijani side shows aggression and speaks in the language of threats, jeopardizing the fragile peace in the region. In the issue of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict and overcoming the consequences of the war, Garegin II noted the importance of the assistance of the international community and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries.
During the conversation, the sides also touched upon Azerbaijan's violation of the agreements stipulated in the Trilateral Statement of November 9, in particular, regarding the repatriation of prisoners of war and detained civilians.
In turn, the President of the Senate noted that he arrived in Armenia these days as a sign of solidarity with the Armenian people. Speaking about the Armenians who took refuge in France after the genocide, Larcher expressed gratitude for their great contribution to overcoming difficult times for France. In conclusion, he stressed that France is committed to the initiative of Jacques Chirac on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
