ArmInfo. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has resigned. He announced this in his message on April 25.
Pashinyan recalled that on March 18, after consulting with the parliamentary forces and the President of the Republic of Armenia, he announced the holding of early elections on June 20. According to the current Constitution, on the seventh day after the resignation of the current prime minister, the parliament will hold elections for a new head of the Cabinet of Ministers. Pashinyan stressed that his candidacy for the post of prime minister will be nominated by the "My Step" faction. Other factions will not nominate a candidate. He will not be elected prime minister, after which, for the second time, 1/3 of the "My Step" faction will again nominate him for the post of prime minister. Other factions will not nominate a candidate for the post of prime minister again. "If the Prime Minister is not elected by a majority vote of the total number of deputies within two weeks after his resignation, the National Assembly is dissolved by law," Pashinyan said. Thus, early parliamentary elections will be scheduled for June 20.
After his resignation, Pashinyan said, he will remain acting head of the government. "I will continue to perform all the functions of the prime Minister in full,"he said.
Nikol Pashinyan stressed that he decided to resign on April 25 - "Citizen's Day", as it is symbolic - citizens themselves should choose their future by voting in the elections. According to the Prime Minister, the current government returns a quorum to the people-the bearer of sovereignty and the only source of power in the Republic of Armenia. According to Pashinyan, he considers himself the guarantor of this sovereign right of the citizens of Armenia.
According to him, he was ready to go to early elections at the end of 2020, but certain circles believed that they could change the power in the country on the basis of decisions made in "elite rooms". They-the elites, as Pashinyan pointed out, are used to the fact that the real will of the people is not taken into account, and they promote their interests through electoral bribes and pulling their electorate to the polling station "on gazelles". Meanwhile, early elections are the only opportunity for the people to have their say and decide their future, Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister assured that the current government is ready to follow the will of the people without question, and if the people decide that Pashinyan should remain as prime minister, he will continue to lead the country. "But if it decides that it is not, then it will be so," Pashinyan assured.
