ArmInfo. Every year, on April 24, Armenians around the world commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide committed in the early 20th century. This is stated in the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
"As a result of this unprecedented, pre-planned crime, the Armenian people living in the territory of the Ottoman Empire were the victims of forced displacement and mass slaughter. For many years, the Young Turk and subsequent governments, guided by the ideology of pan-Turkism, extended the policy of the Armenian Genocide to Eastern Armenia.
As a result of these actions in 1915-1923, 1.5 million people were killed, hundreds of thousands of destinies were crippled, an entire nation was deprived of its spiritual, educational, cultural and economic property, and the right to live in most of its historical homeland was taken away from it.
In 1878, at the Berlin Congress, the great Powers and the Ottoman Empire committed themselves to guarantee the security of the population of its Armenian provinces. By planning and carrying out the Armenian Genocide, the Young Turk Government nullified the international security guarantees issued to the Armenian people and created a precedent for the "solution" of the problem of protecting human rights by the death sentence against an entire people.
These actions later became the basis for the definition of the crime of genocide and were reflected in the international convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. Nevertheless, the organizers of the Armenian Genocide did not face international justice.
Impunity for the Armenian Genocide still inspires those who plan new international crimes. The recent war unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh and the genocidal actions of the Turkish-Azerbaijani alliance have shown that the approaches to solving international problems by force have not changed. The crimes against the Armenians of Artsakh also confirmed that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is important not only for historical justice and the restoration of the truth, but also for the security of the Armenian people.
The goal of the Armenian Genocide was the complete annihilation of the Armenian people. Thanks to the collective efforts of the Armenian people, the support provided to the survivors of the Genocide by various countries and peoples of the world, the Armenian people have endured with dignity the greatest disaster in their history.
Today, the Armenian people in Armenia and the Diaspora are showing their steadfastness in the struggle for justice and truth. This struggle once again confirms that neither the brute force of the Young Turk government, nor the speculation on the denial of subsequent Turkish governments and hostile actions against the Armenian people in the region are able to forget the first genocide of the 20th century and its martyrs.
This struggle will continue until the Turkish government finds the strength to recognize the Armenian Genocide and take steps to eliminate its consequences, " the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. In connection with the 106th anniversary, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Ararat Mirzoyan, also spoke, noting that 106 years after this most terrible crime in the history of mankind, it should be stated that the struggle waged by the Armenian people as a united front is fair and justified. "It is fair, because every unrecognized and unpunished crime creates a fertile ground for its repetition. The history of the century has shown that, unfortunately, genocides, genocidal acts were also repeated in other parts of the world. This struggle against genocide and crimes against humanity, which we are waging as a state and a people, is in fact not only for us, but for the sake of all other nations and peoples of the world, so that they do not go through the same catastrophe that the Armenian people experienced at the beginning of the last century.
Our struggle is justified, because even after more than a century, unfortunately, the pan-Turkic encroachments and aspirations have not changed, with which the existence of the Armenian people in its cradle is incompatible. The Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Artsakh, which posed a vital threat to the entire Armenian people, was also a clear proof of this.
We, as the statehood that our grandfathers dreamed of at the beginning of the last century and which we restored at the end of the century, must now develop our system and security environment. And our neighbors must finally understand that we are not going to leave our Homeland. I believe that the entire pan-Armenian potential will be concentrated for the glory of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people, " Mirzoyan concluded
