ArmInfo. On the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the "Javakhk Diaspora of Russia" once again appeals to the President and Parliament, the Georgian opposition and the entire progressive public of Georgia to recognize this crime against humanity.
The appeal of the Board of the Diaspora, received in ArmInfo, in particular, states: "April 24 is the day of remembrance of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, the first large-scale crime of this kind. This date is conditional; on this day in 1915, Turkey, starting with the destruction of the Armenian intelligentsia, moved from one stage of the Genocide to another, from the "partial" Genocide to the complete destruction of the Armenians in their historical homeland. The Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923 is an international crime against humanity, and according to the UN Conventions "On the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide" of 1948 and "On the Non-application of the Statute of Limitations for War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity" of 1968, the statute of limitations does not apply to it. The Armenian Genocide is recognized by many countries of the civilized world, including the permanent members of the UN Security Council: Russia, France and most of the US states, as well as by the Council of Europe, the UN Commission on War Crimes, the European Parliament, the World Council of Churches and the Vatican. The parliaments of several European countries have adopted laws criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide. However, fraternal Georgia has not yet officially expressed its attitude to this egregious international crime. We, the public organization "Javakhk Diaspora of Russia", appeal to the President and Parliament of Georgia to recognize the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey of 1915-1923 at the legislative level and declare April 24 in Georgia as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide. This is necessary in the name of justice, morality and democracy, which will allow us to firmly lay the foundation for the political and legal elimination of its consequences. We ask the President of Georgia to make an annual Appeal to the Armenians on April 24, thus paying tribute to the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Geno cide. Such an appeal will not only respond to the feelings of the Armenians, but also increase the prestige of Georgia on the world stage. We call on the friendly Georgian people to join the international community with their just voice, recognize the Armenian Genocide and condemn any manifestations of ethnic hatred, national discrimination and enmity, so that such a tragedy will never be repeated in the history of mankind. We call on the political parties of Georgia, the Georgian opposition, public associations and other progressive forces of Georgia to openly make statements on April 24 and honor the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire of 1915-1923. The recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a matter of historical justice and requires political will. At the same time, the recognition of the fact of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey will show the strength and unity of the Georgian-Armenian civilized society, the unity of reason and peace."
