ArmInfo. "Enlightened Armenia" initiates amendments to Part 1 of Article 148 of the Constitution of Armenia, thus eliminating restrictions on the qualification of settlement and the availability of Armenian citizenship only for candidates for members of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
"According to the current Constitution, members of the Government of Armenia (Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister) must have only the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia, and not less than for the last 4 years. At the same time, they must meet the residency requirement for the same period (in part 2 of Article 48 and part 1 of Article 148 of the RA Constitution). "This provision directly prevents the involvement of our compatriots from the Diaspora and the use of their skills, connections and other opportunities in the most important functions of public administration. This regulation is unacceptable in the system of internal government, especially in the context of a shortage of highly qualified personnel in the current catastrophic situation, " Marukyan wrote on his Facebook page.
Thus, as the parliamentarian noted, "Enlightened Armenia" initiates changes in part 1 of Article 148 of the Constitution of Armenia, editing it so that a member of the government (with the exception of the Prime Minister) can become a capable citizen of the Republic of Armenia who has reached the age of 25 and speaks the Armenian language, regardless of whether he has citizenship of other states, the period of obtaining citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and the duration of residence in Armenia. "These constitutional changes can be implemented through the parliament," the PA leader explained.
