According to the press service of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Talakvadze, in particular, said: "Now is a good time for the future of our democracies. I am confident that Armenia and its people will use this cooperation to develop opportunities, create new prospects, and strengthen democracy and the economy."
At the same time, he expressed support for the progress and development of Armenia, noting that Georgia stands for peace and the solution of issues through dialogue.
Noting that there are other problems in the region, including the coronavirus, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament thanked Armenia for effective cooperation during the pandemic. In turn, Armen Sarkissian noted that the strength of small countries is due to their actions. "In this context, countries such as Armenia and Georgia should actively participate in international relations and in relations with friendly or neighboring countries, large or small, or superpowers," the Armenian President said, pointing out the exceptional importance of Georgia for Armenia. At the same time, Sargsyan stated that the economic situation is quite difficult, the economies of both countries have been seriously affected by the coronavirus. "We should encourage the implementation of joint programs, since regional joint programs can be much more attractive for international investors," the Armenian President said. At the same time, Sargsyan believes that it is time for Yerevan and Tbilisi to think about what steps should be taken to ensure stability, predictability and security in the region. In the context of security and stability issues in the region, the President of Armenia called it unacceptable that a few months after the start of the war against Artsakh, Azerbaijan continued to hold Armenian servicemen and civilians hostage, violating all the norms of international humanitarian law.
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II also took part in the visit of the President of Armenia. According to the Georgian Patriarchate, the friendly relations between Georgia and Armenia, as well as the processes taking place in the international arena, were discussed at the meeting. His Holiness stressed the importance of peace in the Caucasus region and throughout the world, as well as the issue of peaceful resolution of conflicts. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian thanked the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia for the reception, conveyed the greetings of Patriarch Garegin II of Armenia and expressed hope for further strengthening of friendly relations between our countries.
