ArmInfo.Taking into account the constant work of the Armenian lobby towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the United States, the current activity in the American media and the US Congress is not surprising. A similar opinion was expressed by the head of scientific research at the Institute "Dialogue of Civilizations" Alexey Malashenko.
"We see all this on the eve of April 24 every year. However, it should be noted that the efforts of the Armenian lobby have been bearing fruit since last year, when the Senate and the House of Representatives recognized the Genocide by their resolutions. Meanwhile, the Armenian lobby has close ties with the Biden administration. Plus his campaign promises to recognize the fact of the Genocide. Plus, Ankara's desire for greater independence in its own policy," he stressed.
Malashenko describes the current situation in US-Turkish relations as even more tense than last year. And hiding its own nervousness due to the lack of any contacts between the US and Turkish presidents, Ankara simultaneously withdrew from the Istanbul Convention, which was taken quite hard in the West. At the same time, Ankara, according to the expert, will settle relations with Moscow if possible, and there are trends in favor of joining these relations with Tehran. Meanwhile, such trilateral cooperation, in the opinion of Malashenko, can be considered as directed against the West. And, accordingly, this causes some concern in Washington and Brussels.
As a result, according to his estimates, the United States is threatening sanctions at the level of its ambassador to Turkey in connection with the expected delivery of another batch of Russian S-400 complexes. And there are no prospects for reaching an agreement on this issue between the NATO allies. This, according to the expert's forecasts, creates new prerequisites for strengthening cooperation between the US, Russia, Turkey and Iran, which are under sanctions.
"Thus, against the background of such tension in relations between Washington and Ankara, the active use of the issue of genocide by the American media as a lever against Turkey looks by no means accidental. US-Turkish relations have indeed reached the threshold of a major crisis, and it is these relations that are a significant, main factor in Washington's motivation to recognize the Armenian Genocide. In this light, we do not have to exclude anything, " Malashenko concluded.
