ArmInfo. On April 3, Yerevan joined the "Garden of Remembrance" international campaign. "The action is quite symbolic - 27 million trees in memory of every citizen of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War," said Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin.
The event took place in Victory Park (Border Guards Alley). It started on March 18 in southern Russia, and on March 28 went to the international level - Kyrgyzstan joined it, now the baton has been transferred to Armenia. The goal of the action is to plant 27 million trees in memory of each of the 27 million who died during the Great Patriotic War. Thus, green monuments to our heroes are being created. For the first time the action took place a year ago. More than 50 countries have joined it. In Armenia, in connection with the pandemic, it was supported in schools, by youth organizations and privately, in the format of #SadPamyatiDoma (local residents planted trees at their homes, registering on the official website of the action and posting photos on social networks with a hashtag). On April 3, 100 birches and mountain ash will be planted in the Victory Park of Yerevan.
Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan, MP from the ruling faction "My Step" Alexey Sandykov, ambassadors of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, representatives of the Russian House in Armenia took part in the event today. According to the coordinator of the action, Mariam Hovsepyan, the event is held with the high support of the Yerevan Municipality, with the assistance of the Russian House. According to her, the organizers were assisted by the capital's gardening service. "We have received the baton from Kyrgyzstan, and we are passing it on to Moldova. The action will be annual," Hovsepyan said, noting that the action is held not only in Yerevan - on April 14 it will be held in Gyumri and Vanadzor.
The Russian Ambassador to the RA called the event a common cause. "This is very important. We must remember not only history as a whole, we must remember everyone, everyone who gave their lives for what we live today, for the fact that we have a future, for the fact that our children can hope that they can live in a better world, "the diplomat said. According to him, this is especially important today. "We all know perfectly well that attempts to rewrite history, to consign to oblivion the feat of the Soviet people, the people who broke the back of Hitler's fascism, are becoming more and more persistent," he said.
